This Saturday, July 7th, Peter Hibbard of the Peninsula Hong Kong will lead AIA Members and Guests on a tour of the English Settlement around the Bund. The tour will take a circular route starting at the Astor House Hotel - weaving along the Bund and the streets beyond to Henan Road that was the original boundary of the English Settlement as defined in 1846. It will take approximately 3 hours.

About Peter Hibbard
Peter Hibbard MBE has a background in urban planning and sociology, but decided to turn his attention to the development of the Chinese tourism industry in 1983. He was a Visiting Scholar at Hong Kong University’s Centre of Asian Studies in 1985/86 and lectured in tourism studies at the Beijing Institute of Tourism thereafter, before moving to Shanghai in 1991. He has devoted much of his life to researching the historical development of Shanghai and of tourism in China. Peter is very much concerned with promoting links with past and was founding president of the reconvened Royal Asiatic Society in Shanghai in 2007. He has assisted in major restoration projects and is the author of many publications including The Bund Shanghai: China Faces West and Beyond Hospitality: The History of the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Ltd. He is currently Heritage and Archive Ambassador, The Peninsula Hong Kong.
