About the Speakers

Julia Monk FAIA

Senior Principal | Director of Hospitality


Julia Monk is a senior principal and global director of hospitality design based in HOK’s Hong Kong office. Julia has focused her career on defining luxury guest experiences for prestigious hotel brands around the world. She has led the design for many prestigious brands, including: Aria, Conrad, Four Seasons, InterContinental, Hyatt, Mandarin Oriental, MGM, Peninsula, Ritz Carlton, Rosewood, Shangri-La, St. Regis, W and Waldorf Astoria. Julia also has created and defined brands for Sheraton Suites, Renaissance, InterContinental and Radisson Blu. 

As a global leader in hospitality design, Julia has been a frequent speaker and panelist at high-profile events including the AIA National Convention, Asia Hotel Forum, Boutique Design New York, China Hotel Investment Conference, CoreNet, HD Expo, Maison et Objet Asia and ULI Asia Pacific Summit.  She lectures on hotel design for Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, is co-chair and founder of the AIA New York Architecture of Hospitality Committee and serves on many boards and committees.

Mei Ping has extensive experience in design, project management and investment. Her architectural background and her ability to inspire clients and lead a team of professionals combine extremely well with a passion for hospitality and luxury real estate development in China.

Since 2004 Mei has been Managing Director of M&D Consultants, originally an architectural practice that expanded into project management, investment and development consultant.

Mei Ping was appointed as Chief Representative, China, for Capella Hotel Group Asia at the beginning of 2014. In her role, Dr. Mei is responsible for all aspects of the business development of new and existing projects for the Capella Hotel Group’s Asian portfolio. Another key responsibility is redefining and evolving the company’s brand strategy in order to meet the specific requirements of the China market.
