Chapter Elections | Meet the Candidates & Vote Tuesday at Matsu

We as a Chapter will elect several new Officers for the coming year. 

Come to meet other members of the design community, and learn about the candidates to lead next year’s chapter!

 

General Qualifications

Candidate should possess proven and ongoing leadership in their respective companies or within the community. This person should understand organizational dynamics, goal-oriented planning, budgeting, negotiating skills, team building, resource management, event planning, and basic public-speaking.

 

Vice President - 2021 Calendar Year / President 2022 Calendar Year

The role of the Vice President is the support the President in all initiatives; taking on larger initiatives that require greater focus. All activities support and uphold the annual vision as defined by that year’s President.

Together with the President, the Vice President helps define and curate the membership experience. Additionally, together they organize the efforts of the Officers and the members of the Executive Committee (EXCO). The Executive Committee comprises of all the committees that support all core chapter functions. Monthly EXCO meetings are run together by the President and Vice President.

 

The Vice-President helps represent the Chapter in the community at large in Shanghai and China, and within the larger, global AIA community across all regions and chapters.

In the situation that the President is not able to fulfill his/her duties temporarily or to the end of his/her term, the Vice-President would step in and take on the role and responsibilities of the President.

The term duration is one calendar year beginning in January and concluding in December of 2021. The year following, the Vice-President automatically elevates to become the President, so this person will serve as President in 2022. Therefore, the year as Vice-President is also the opportunity to more deeply understand the functions and operational aspects of the chapter, event planning, resources, etc.

Treasurer– 2021 & 2022 Calendar Year

The role of Treasurer is key to keeping the chapter running effectively and requires someone with a cooperative approach and sufficient organizational skills to assist the Chapter in handling all financial matters. These include event planning, financial forecasting, budgeting, and multi-year initiatives. This vital role ensures that all the teams running the Chapter are adequately resourced and are all aligned with the available support.


This person also plays an important link between the Chapter and AIA National regarding financial matters. The treasurer will be expected to develop a budget which will be approved by the Board and Officers. Together with the Chapter leadership and the various committee teams, this person will guide and advise on finance-related issues on event planning. This person will also coordinate and manage records of all chapter expenditures and income.

The treasurer will oversee the sponsorship and membership committees.

Suitable candidates will have a background in operations and senior management within a firm. This position will be appointed by the Chapter’s current Board and Officers from the suitable candidates.
