1000 Trees Project Tour

Join the American Institute of Architects Shanghai Chapter for an exciting tour of 1000 Trees next Saturday, 12th November 2022.
1000 Trees project by Heatherwick Studio is a mixed-use project designed to simulate a mountain forest of trees. The western half of the site containing shops and restaurants and public promenades is completed. As the building steps up creating a mountain, unusual for a mall, all units have their own outside terraces and views. The building columns become broad planters in which are planted many diverse shrubs and trees so that during the year the appearance will change with the seasons. The selection was made to minimize pruning and maintenance. Eventually, the project will have over 1000 trees and 250,000 plants. Many artists were commissioned to create artwork for the façade.
We are honored to invite the project architect, structural engineer, and facade access and maintenance consultant to share with us the innovative concepts behind the design, the unusual structural and facade characteristics behind the design.
